Grounded in Truth
Janet Skole

Every person possesses an innate, benevolent wisdom that provides direction, is driven to create, and is a source of inner strength.

This wisdom is our authentic voice. It's the part of us that "knows" what we think and feel. It offers us clarity, understanding and motivation. When it is ignored, we feel listless, confused and powerless. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to lose touch with this source of knowledge. From an early age, most of us have given up greater or lesser degrees of confidence in our own innate intelligence in the interest of fitting in and getting along.

More and more, we see it is imperative that we reclaim this capacity to know the Self, for the sake of each of us as individuals, as well as for our families, our communities, and even, for the world. Through this knowledge, we gain understanding, we develop compassion, even love, for ourselves and for others. Life has more meaning and we feel more free and real.

The written word has long been essential in helping me safely reconnect with my thoughts and feelings. Proprioceptive Writing has added the elements of listening and reflecting to my writing practice, requiring that I delve deeper and ask more questions. For me, this reflection has steadied and fortified the power of expression. Through Proprioceptive Writing, I have had dawnings of realization and also become more grounded in my truth. At PW workshops, I've been privileged to witness others reclaim and express their own essential selves.

In my own practice and through certification to teach PW, I've come to have immense appreciation for how this method can empower individuals and enact significant personal and social change.

Drs. Linda Trichter Metcalf and Tobin Simon have devoted decades of their lives to practicing and perfecting Proprioceptive Writing. I wholeheartedly embrace their philosophy of teaching with the utmost respect for each individual, fully honoring the importance of every "write." It is my mission to teach with such reverence.
